thanksgiving break was pretty sweet. it was great seeing friends and such. the food was obviously amazing. while i was back on break our family decided to set up our fake xmas tree. this has become a lesser priority. for me i just wanted to go out and chill with some of my friends. i did stick around though. i felt that as a part of the family it was only right to stay and help with the tree. when my roommate and i returned back to geneseo, i found out that he had brought a small xmas tree for our room. later that night we went out and bought lights to string around our room. i would like to think that we have a very festive dorm room now.

we had our first snow recently, that was kind of exciting. the one thing about winter that i enjoy besides christmas is basketball. i recently watched my favorite team, the Duke Blue Devils, win by 53 points on tv, it was quite exciting. i think that the idea of a secret santa could be something fun.

another blog
i was a little worried that i might be one of those people that dont have enough entries. here are some thoughts i have. i cant wait for christmas so i can get some great gifts. i also cant wait to get a good long break from school. one thing in nissenbaum that was kind of intersting was that he said that christmas gifts were for pure pleasure and shouldnt really be gifts that will actually be useful. something like that. anyway, it doesnt really work that way in my family. my siblings and i do recieve our fair share of great gifts but we also recieve gifts that will be more useful to us. an example being for my birthday this summer i got bed sheets and a pillow for college. not exactly a great birthday present. im not gonna complain though. i guess its the thoguht that counts. my favorite parts about the winter are probly the xmas season and basketball season. im not really a fan of the cold weather. sledding and stuff is always fun though.

Chapter 4
I thought it was interesting how the idea of the presant started to change. The gift went from being food and drink to more material gifts. The idea that books were an ideal gift was a little hard to believe. It seems that it does make a good gift, as well as being a presant it also helped the literacy in America. It was very interesting that advertising was a big contributor in the market as early as it was. It really took off in a short couple of years. It was also interesting that even in the times of depression, gifts were still bought for your loved ones.
